Hello there,
Welcome to my website! This is a place that I hope to use as a way for people to get in touch with me and see the kind of work I have been doing. I will be blogging about my research, graduate student life, favorite books, and anything else I decide to share along the way!
I am currently a student in the Masters of Environmental Studies (MES) program at York University, Toronto, Ontario. Formally my area of concentration is biodiversity conservation and sustainable agriculture. Within this area, my research is focused on foraging behaviour of at-risk bumble bee species in southern Ontario.
Another tenet of my research is science communication. I am passionate about this topic and strive to be better able to communicate my research all the time. Part of my work recently has been looking at the use of citizen science programs in biodiversity conservation.
The field season has just come to a close, and I am preparing to get back into a routine with the school-year beginning again. This upcoming year will be focused on compiling and analyzing my data collected this field season, writing and submitting my Master’s thesis, and looking for PhD opportunities on bee ecology in Ontario.
Time to get busy!
Shelby
